Mary Mackey, Trustee

Mary Mackey joined TBW in January 2000. In February, the other 5 members of the Cooke County Local Organization (LO) determined she should be their Vice President. It was almost overwhelming and somewhat daunting; but a determination to overcome her shyness and improve her communication skills, and, more significant, the encouragement of the members gave her the courage to stay and give it a shot. She has since served as LO Treasurer and President, Region 7 Director, state Finance Committee Chair a couple of times, TBW state Treasurer twice, and TBW state 2010-11 Vice President.

“Tenacity” is one of Mary’s most prominent attributes. A couple of years out of high school and working as computer operator for a small accounting firm, Mary recognized she needed to be better educated and enrolled in an accounting class. It took 14 years to get her accounting degree, all while raising two wonderful children and working fulltime. She graduated magna cum laude from Texas Woman’s University at the age of 38, then passed the CPA exam the first (and only) time she took it.

Mary is married to J.O. (aka Jim). They have 4 children between them, all are married and scattered from Chicago to Houston. They also have 3 fur-babies: The Pug dogs, Dee Dee and Lily, are full litter-mate sisters that have never been apart for more than a few hours; and Tippy, the tuxedo cat that rules the Mackey house.

Mary is employed as the Senior Financial Accountant at Petro Harvester Oil & Gas in Plano. She has been in corporate accounting since 2005, having previously been employed in public accounting firms for 20 years. Mary takes her work very seriously and her fun even more seriously. She follows Katherine Hepburn’s belief that “If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.”

Mary gives special credit to the members of TBW for always being so very supportive and encouraging, mentoring her as she has grown personally, socially, and professionally. “Being a member of TBW has shown me that I can be me… and has made me a better ‘me.’ I am proud to be a member of this organization and honored to know the magnificent women in TBW.”
